Within the framework of Collaborative Innovation Formations, a pilot Backup Hydrogen Supply System was developed by MES ENERGY S.A.. The system functions as an uninterrupted power supply capable of delivering electrical energy to loads using hydrogen as a fuel. Primarily intended for the building sector, it can also be applied in various other appliications, such as integrating with Renewable Energy Systems (e.g., Photovoltaic Systems).

The pilot system, which is part of the research program: Bussiness Development Plans for Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Savings Innovations for Application in Almost Zero-Energy Infrastructures, and was developed in the spring of 2023, consists of the following:

Air-cooled hydrogen fuel cell with a polymer proton exchange membrane (PEM)

Closed-type battery array for energy storage

Pressurized hydrogen gas cylinders

Touchscreen with a microprocessor

DC load bank, integrated to simulate electrical infrastructure loads

During the spring and summer of 2023, the operation of the backup system was monitored and recorded while supplying electricity to building loads, specifically a school building, an office, and a residence. A DC electronic load was used to simulate the infastructure loads.Parameters such as voltage, current, and power supplied by the backup system to the electronic load were recorded during system operation.

From the implementation and monitoring of the system, the following capabilities of the backup system were identified:

Provision of the desired power level without fluctuations for as long as needed

Quick response to changes in the desired power

Supply of energy to infrastructure whenever necessary, e.g., during power outages, provided there is sufficient stored fuel

Due to these capabilities, it is inferred that the system has the potential to replace conventional backup systems like Diesel Fuel Cell (HFC) generators, offering advantages such as:

Reduction or elimination of CO₂ emissions through the use of green hydrogen

Lower noise levels

Lower operational expenses mainly due to reduced maintenance requirements

As an example, it was calculated that replacing a conventional Diesel Fuel Cell backup system with the proposed hydrogen backup system, in the case of a school building, could result in an annual operating cost reduction of 610 EUR and a reduction of annual CO₂ emissions by 400 kg.

More results can be found in the following scientific publication:

MES ENERGY S.A. has successfully and on schedule completed all individual tasks associated with upgrading the street lighting on key road axes in the Municipality of Ios. The project has now entered the phase of guaranteed operation. Throughout this period, the company will ensure uninterrupted operation by conducting planned maintenance tasks and addressing any potential damages that may occur.

The 114 autonomous LED luminaires, powered by batteries charged using a PV panel placed on their pole, have been primarily installed at key intersections of the national road network. They are strategically positioned in areas with poor visibility and challenging driving conditions, as well as on narrow roads, particularly in the harbor area where pedestrian and vehicle traffic is high.

With this initiative, the municipality of Ios actively contributes to environmental protection and promotes sustainable development. LED lighting not only enhances visibility and safety on the roads but also makes a significant contribution to reducing energy consumption and overall public expenditure savings.

At the Hydrogen & Green Gases Forum organized by Energypress, Dr. Panagiotis Zervas, Director of Research and Development at MES ENERGY S.A., described the integration of hydrogen into the energy market and the transportation sector as an ‘inevitable path.’

In his statement, following the conference, he noted:

“It’s a great event. It is quite touching for those of us who have been involved in the hydrogen sector for at least 25 years, to see that all these people have gathered here and there is a significant investment interest. During our academic years, someone said that ‘hydrogen was, is, and will be the future.’ Finally, the time has come, and it is here.

As a company, we take immense pride in being the ones who constructed the first Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS) in Greece, at the facilities of EKEFE Demokritos. Therefore, we are additionally delighted with the progress and the growing interest in this field.

According to the national hydrogen strategy’s plans and the willingness of the political leadership, we believe that moving towards the hydrogen sector and integrating it into transportation is an unavoidable path. Hydrogen is not only beneficial for the environment but also contributes to the country’s energy security.

We hope to see more Hydrogen Refuelling Stations. The European target for our country is to have 26 by 2025. Although it presents challenges, having Hydrogen Refuelling Stations every 150-200 kilometers along the national roads is crucial. I believe it is a one-way road, and we will witness it.”

MES ENERGY S.A. undertook, on behalf of the Municipality of Ios, the supply, installation, and commissioning of 114 LED lighting fixtures. These autonomous fixtures are powered by batteries that are charged using a PV panel placed on their pole. The contract, worth 578,493 euros, was signed on Monday, July 3, 2023, and is expected to be completed within six months.

The LED luminaires will be installed at critical points along the municipal road network, where visibility is low and driving conditions are challenging. Additionally, they will be placed on narrow roads, particularly in the port area, where there is high pedestrian and vehicle traffic without the presence of sidewalks. By strategically locating the LED luminaires, the Municipality aims to enhance safety and visibility for pedestrians and vehicles.

The LED lighting fixtures not only provide better visibility but also withstand adverse weather conditions and offer the best possible quality and aesthetic results. Additionally, by adopting lighting technologies that minimize energy consumption, the environment is protected, and sustainable development is promoted.

MES ENERGY S.A. undertook, on behalf of the Municipality of Heraklion, the supply and installation of eight PV Systems with a total capacity of 151.19 kWp. These systems will operate using the Net-Metering mechanism. Additionally, the company will replace the existing conventional lamps in eight municipal buildings with new energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures. The contract, worth 312,006 euros, was signed on Monday, June 19, 2023, and is expected to be completed within eighteen months.

Net-Metering enables Local Government Organizations to offset a significant portion of their electricity consumption by harnessing solar energy from the PV panels to meet their energy demands. At the same time, LED lamps achieve significant energy savings compared to traditional ones as they have up to ten times longer lifespan, are more durable, do not emit heat, do not contain harmful gases like mercury, consume less electricity, and have minimal maintenance requirements.

Due to its high energy consumption, the Municipality of Heraklion is compelled to prioritize energy-saving measures through the adoption of Renewable Energy Sources. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the Municipality’s energy profile and drastically reduce CO2 emissions.

The private equity firm, SIREC ENERGY CAPITAL PARTNERS S.A, who invests in environmental sustainability projects, and MES ENERGY S.A, a subsidiary of Mesogios Group, who has expertise in energy saving solutions (ESS) and renewable energy sources (RES), have jointly established ESCO PARTNERS S.A., in order to develop rooftop PV systems using net metering for industrial and commercial applications for immediate energy consumption and zero transmission waste. In addition, ESCO PARTNERS S.A. is set to develop alternative systems for the cogeneration of electricity and power (Cogeneration of Heat and Power, or CHP) for industrials. In the CHP systems the fuel consumed generates additional energy in the form of water or steam plus electricity which is redistributed through the power grids or kept in the local facility through net metering. The activities of ESCO PARTNERS S.A. are fully aligned with the recent announcement of European Commission, REPowerEU which further promotes Renewable Energy in an effort for the EU to become independent form Russian import of fossil fuels.

The usage of Net Metering, as stipulated by Greek and European regulatory frameworks, ensures that the energy produced through CHP systems/RES covers the requirements of local facilities first, with excess supply then going to wider energy grids for future consumption. The user offsets the energy produced and consumed with the energy provider. In this way energy optimisation is achieved through CHP systems and renewable energy sources developed by ESCO PARTNERS.

ESCO PARTNERS S.A. is currently in discussions with large organisations to develop these systems for industrial and commercial spaces, warehouses, and big box retailer areas. The company is providing end-to-end solutions that include design, licencing, procurement and installation of the systems in less than twelve months. In addition, the company undertakes the maintenance and service of the systems throughout the full operating time.

Moreover, ESCO PARTNERS S.A. will develop such systems at no extra cost to the customer. For this reason, the company has secured €20m to cover the financing of the investments whilst generating revenue from energy sales. The strategic plan includes development and generation of 30 megawatts (MW) over the next three years.

High energy prices and the need for clean energy solutions make CHP and Photovoltaic panel systems an excellent choice. Rooftop PV systems in particular have two major advantages: a) do not require additional land allocation b) energy can be generated where it is consumed, avoiding energy wastage during transit, leading to major financial benefits.

The Managing Director of MES, Kostis Terzis commented:
ESCO PARNTERS S.A. secures the capital for the development of innovative sustainable energy projects that are critical to the generation of cost-effective green energy.

The Chairman of SECP, Dionissis Alissandratos commented:
The private equity capital provides us with the flexibility and agility to support the development of innovative and environmentally friendly projects and provide solutions for major environmental issues, like the production of low-cost energy that will in turn generate
higher yields to long term investors.

About MES ENERGY S.A:
MES ENERGY S.A is a subsidiary of Mesogios Group, who have expertise in the development and construction of renewable energy sources and efficiency systems. The company has managed over 500 MW of green energy systems over the last years whilst managing projects totalling 35 MW. Construction in renewable energy and efficiency projects exceeds 30 MW.

About SIREC ENERGY CAPITAL PARTNERS:
SIREC ENERGY CAPITAL PARTNERS is an independent Private Equity Firm, managing the European Sustainable Investment Fund (EUSIF) with € 50 m. assets under management and a focus on investing in environmental sustainability and energy efficiency projects. EUSIF was established in 2021, but the team has a track record of more than € 400 m. of executed investments in projects in energy efficiency and renewable energy production across seven European countries.

MES ENERGY S.A. – member of MESOGEOS S.A. group – participated in the 4th International Exposition “Verde.tec – Environmental Technologies”, which took place on March 18-20. The exhibition is an opportunity to promote the innovations in green technologies, in which participated companies from the fields of Environmental Rehabilitation, Energy Saving, Renewable Energy Sources, Product and Material Recycling, Resources Management, Liquid and Solid Waste Management, “Green” Industry, as well as Electromobility.

In the exhibition, MES ENERGY S.A. presented, among other things, the first commercially available hydrogen-fueled bikes (H2 BIKE), developed to meet today’s needs for ecological transportation. The bikes have an excellent autonomy of 145 km with a single refueling, thanks to their combination of an integrated hydrogen tank with a high-efficiency fuel cell. Some additional features of the bikes are the energy performance of 780 Wh, the hydrogen tank with a pressure of 300 bar, the assisted speed reaching 25 km/h, the minimum carbon footprint of 0.2 g/km, as well as the wide operating temperature range, so that neither heat nor cold affect the bikes’ performance. Finally, the bikes also present the possibility of instant refueling, as, compared to conventional electric bikes, they are refueled with hydrogen in less than 60 seconds, in any hydrogen refueling station. It is worth noting that MES ENERGY S.A. designed, supplied and installed the first Hydrogen Refueling Station in Greece, which is located at the premises of Demokritos in Agia Paraskevi, Attica.

Apart from the hydrogen bikes, the company presented, in the exhibition, its participation in the development of an Integrated Prototype Multivariable Automatic Control System for the Energy Saving in Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP). This innovative System addressed the operation of WWTP in dynamic environments by integrating the Model Predictive Control (MPC) method in wastewater treatment. The integrated algorithm of the System takes into account the main cost factors of the WWTP, such as ventilation, pump operation or aerobic digestion, in order to define the optimal actions for the time period defined each time. Some advantages resulting from the use of the mentioned Automatic Control System are the lower operating costs of the WWTP, the minimisation of the energy consumption and of the COD/BOD fluctuations, as well as the possibility for the user to incorporate a schedule and limitations in critical factors.

MESOGEOS S.A. undertook, in consortium with AKTOR FM S.A. and GLOBITEL S.A., the “Maintenance and upgrade of the street lighting in the main roads of the Attica Region in order to save energy and reduce operating costs”. The relevant tender was conducted through an Open Process of the National System of Electronic Public Procurement (ESIDIS), by the Region of Attica, by the Directorate of Project Development Planning and the Directorate of Metropolitan Infrastructure Management. The value of the relevant contract, signed on April 20, 2021, amounts to € 37,000,000 and is financed by the Operational Program “Attiki 2014-2020” (NSRF 2014-2020). MES ENERGY S.A., as a subsidiary of MESOGEOS S.A. with extensive experience in energy saving applications such as LED lighting, has undertaken the Project Management and Asset Management of the project for 10 years.

The object of this contract is, first of all, the collection of data and the recording of the existing street lighting information, as well as the design and mapping of the specifications of the new street lighting system and the conduction of the necessary phototechnical study. This is followed by the supply and installation of 23,790 pieces of LED technology luminaires with a power of 150W to 1000W, which will replace the existing energy-intensive luminaires using Sodium lamps. It is worth mentioning that the existing luminaires require an annual light bulb replacement, whereas the new LED luminaires operate seamlessly for 10,000 hours, i.e. for over 20 years, thus reducing the maintenance requirements. The new luminaires are equipped with a wireless controller in order to be able to fully integrate into an IOT (internet Of Things) Management System. In addition, the supply, installation, configuration and commissioning of an IOT street lightning Management System will be realised, in order to achieve the management and control of the street lightning of the main roads of the Attica Region. The remote management system consists of the devices and procedures used by the end user to receive information related to the operation of the street lighting, as well as to give instructions concerning the configuration of its operating profile. For example, through the management system, the illumination level of the luminaires, their connection to motion sensors etc can be controlled. The three mentioned companies will also be responsible for the provision of operation and maintenance services for the lighting system for 10 years.

Through the above interventions, an annual saving of street lighting electricity cost of at least 65% is expected in the Attica Region, corresponding to 1.5 million € per year in favor of the citizens. An additional advantage that arises, apart from the energy saving and the improvement of the footprint of the Attica Region on the environment, is the improvement of lighting quality and visibility, which will improve road safety in the main streets of the Region. The advantages however, do not stop here, as the luminaires are fully controlled via a remote control system, which means that it is possible to receive data concerning their situation in real time, and therefore potential damage can be treated faster.

The upgrade of the lighting bodies began on December 6, 2021, on Poseidonos and Kifisias Avenues, and the better lighting quality is already evident. Similar works will follow in the most important avenues of Attica, such as Kifisou, Siggrou, Marathonos, Vouliagmenis, Alimou and Katechaki, as well as in the streets around the centre of Athens, such as Panepistimiou, Amalias, Vasilissis Sofias and Pireos.

In 2020, the Municipality of Thessaloniki conducted an Open, International Tender for the Supply of Electric Vehicles. This action was financed by the Region of Central Macedonia, by the European Union, by the European Regional Development Fund in specific, while national resources were also used, through the Public Investment Program. MES ENERGY S.A. was selected for the supply of four electric four-wheeled trucks with tipper and four electric four-wheeled trucks with tipper and washer, which are intended to cover the needs of the Recycling and Urban Waste Management Department and of the Urban Environment Management Department of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
In this context, in July 2021, the company delivered the supplied vehicles, successfully and in accordance with the terms of the Contract with the Municipality, which are accompanied by the respective ISO quality management certificates of the manufacturer and comply with all the National and European regulations concerning the accident prevention and the protection of employees. MES ENERGY S.A. also undertook the Good Working Order Warranty of the vehicles and their batteries for 24 months. In addition to the above, the company undertook the training of the personnel and the maintainers of the vehicles, as well as the delivery of all accompanying documents.
Through the above action, MES ENERGY S.A. contributed to the increase of the number of electric vehicles in the Municipality of Thessaloniki, which presents multiple advantages for the Municipality, with the most significant being the reduction of its carbon emissions. Admittedly, electric mobility is considered the future in vehicle mobility, especially in urban centers, as electric vehicles produce zero pollutants, less noise pollution compared to conventional vehicles, while at the same time presenting lower maintenance costs.

The Municipality of Igoumenitsa conducted an open, international, electronic tender for the Supply of LED Lighting and Central Electronic Remote Control System for Electric Lighting Networks. MES ENERGY S.S. was chosen for the above purpose, as it presented the most cost effective offer. Therefore, the company signed the relevant contract with the Municipality of Igoumenitsa on January 8, 2021. The contract is part of the Cooperation Programme Interreg V/A Greece – Italy (EL-IT) 2014 – 2020 and was co-funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund ERDF), by national resources through the Public Investment Program, and by the Municipality of Igoumenitsa.

Under the contract, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the upgrade of street lighting networks in the Municipality of Igoumenitsa, through the supply and installation of a central remote control system of lighting networks and 230 luminaires using LED technology – controllers for the connection to the remote control system. All luminaires were installed in existing networks, in accordance with the applicable safety regulations for the electric grids. In specific, 113 of them have single arm lighting poles and are suitable for street lighting, 105 are hanging lights, suitable for urban streets, and the remaining 12 are post lights, ideal for squares and pedestrian streets. The lighting fixtures were installed on the coastal axis, on inland streets and in the central playground of the Municipality. As for the remote control system, its implementation was completed through the appropriate Management Software, ensuring the wireless control and communication of both the controllers located inside the lighting fixtures and the area controllers – local communication nodes (Gateway), which are installed near the pillars of the lighting networks. MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the assembly, installation, connection, trial operation and delivery of the system in full operation, as well as all the material required for the proper execution of the works of the system. The company, also, undertook the training of the Municipal staff in the functions of the system, the delivery of all technical manuals concerning the installation and maintenance of lightings and the use of the remote control system, as well as the repair of faults during the warranty period.

The benefits resulting from the above activity are multiple. On the one hand, the old, hi-energy-consuming lightings of conventional type were replaced by new LED lightings, which have lower consumption. In addition, using the Central Electronic Remote Control System for Electric Lighting Networks, it is possible to remotely manage and supervise the lighting installations, measure the consumed energy, detect damages etc. Finally, the brightness level can be adjusted according to the requirements and needs of the area (Dimming), thus achieving additional energy saving, as excessive lighting is avoided, where and when it is not needed. Through all the above, MES ENERGY S.A. contributed to meet the needs in energy saving of the Municipality of Igoumenitsa, as well as to the reduction of operation and maintenance costs of the relevant lighting networks.

On December 2, 2020, the Municipality of Heraklion signed a contract with MES ENERGY S.A. concerning the provision of support services in the development of the Electric-Vehicles’ Charging Stations Plan, also known as S.F.I.O. This initiative aims to exploit the possibilities offered by Law 4710/2020 for the development of electromobility and its infrastructure, so as to achieve the objectives of the National Plan for Electromobility. In order for the Municipality to respond timely to the priorities and needs that arose, the assistance of specialized consultants with experience in the field of electromobility and implementation of action plans was required. MES ENERGY S.A. was chosen for this role, using funding from municipal sources. In more detail, the company undertook the support in the development of the Electric-Vehicles’ Charging Stations Plan, which determines the location of a sufficient number of normal or high power publicly accessible charging stations for Electric Vehicles (E/V), as well as the parking spaces for E/V within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality. Initially, the company analyzed the existing situation and the mapping of the intervention area, then chose the location of charging stations of E/V and created scenarios for the development of an integrated E/V charging network and, finally, the company delivered the relevant Master Plan, as well as a monitoring method for the S.F.I.O.
Some of the benefits that arise for the Municipality, through the mentioned activity, include the complete and detailed recording of the installation locations of charging stations of E/V, as well as the conduction of a Master Plan, in order for the Municipality to be ready to submit funding offers for the realization of the project concerning the creation of charging infrastructure. However, it is worth mentioning that the most important benefit remains the turn of the Municipality towards clean transportations and the reduction of its environmental footprint.

In March 2019, a call for a Tender was launched for the conclusion of a Contract for the supply of two electric buses and the installation of their accompanying charging stations. The Contract concerns the Municipality of Heraklion, within the framework of “Innovation Zero Pollution Vehicles”, which is part of the realization of the project: “Common Actions to Develop Green – Environmentally Friendly Tours in Tourist Areas”, also known by the acronym “ECORouTs”, which is part of the “INTERREG VA Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020” Cooperation Programme. The program is funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund), by Greece (Public Investment Program), Cyprus and the Municipality of Heraklion. MES ENERGY S.A. was selected for this purpose, as it presented the most cost effective offer, and signed the Contract on October 15, 2019. As a result, the company undertook the supply of two electric buses with a capacity of at least 30 people each, as well as access and space for one wheelchair. The buses have an autonomy of 120km, full charge capacity in less than 8 hours, easy battery replacement between shifts (Quick Fit Battery System), electronic energy recovery system during braking and deceleration of the vehicle, as well as built-in charger (“on-board charger ”).
In addition, the mentioned electric buses produce zero pollutants and they have a small size but sufficient capacity, in order to meet the needs of visitors and residents of the Municipality of Heraklion in specific areas with attractions, such as the historic city center. MES ENERGY S.A. also undertook the supply and installation of two charging stations for the aforementioned vehicles. The route of the buses and the location of the charging stations were selected with respect to the environment and on the basis of the optimal route, in order to ensure the necessary time for the charging of the buses. Furthermore, due to the electric vehicles’ different driving features and maintenance needs compared to the conventional ones, the company undertook the training of the staff of the Municipality of Heraklion, which took place at the premises of the Municipality, in order to optimize the performance of the buses, given their special characteristics. It is also worth mentioning that electric buses present many advantages over conventional ones, such as cheaper and easier maintenance and repair, reduced risk of ignition, as they do not use fuel, and decreased noise emissions.
However, their most important advantage remains the zero pollutants emission. Thus, through this project, MES ENERGY S.A. contributes to the satisfaction of the needs of both the local population and visitors of the Μunicipality for transportation, without a parallel burden on the natural environment.

The Municipality of Heraklion and the supervised legal entities present high electrical consumption in its infrastructure, including schools, buildings, lightning clocks, pumping stations etc, and have high yearly expenses due to this consumption. The main objective of the Municipality concerns the reduction of electricity costs, as well as the treatment of energy poverty of vulnerable consumers or citizens within its territory. The establishment of an Energy Community in which the Municipality participates contributed to this end and allowed the utilization of possibilities provided by Ν.4513/2018, as well as, through the synergy with other Local Authorities, Legal Entities or citizens, the installation of RES stations. Therefore, in 2019, the Municipality launched a call concerning the “Support in the creation of an Energy Community, based on Ν.4513/2018, with the participation of the Municipality and the preparation of funding proposals, with the aim to utilize Renewable Energy Sources and reduce costs for the Municipality and the citizens”. ME
According to the contract, the company undertook the provision of scientific, technical and administrative support to the Municipality in the investigation of specific proposals for the creation of an Energy Community. In more detail, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the recording of cases of examination and the collection of consumptions, the recording of possibilities for the installation of RES systems, the recording of business models, the support of the Municipality in contacts with other entities, the draft statutes of the Energy Community, the creation of informational material and the support of the Municipality in informing citizens about the Energy Community. In this way, MES ENERGY S.A. contributed in the partial covering of the Municipality’s energy needs, in the offer of facilities to citizens below the poverty line, while at the same time it promoted the reduction of electricity expenses used in the municipal installations and the reduction of the Municipality’s carbon footprint. Finally, it is worth noting that a study for the installation of PV systems with a total power of 2450 kWp in the Municipality resulted in significant CO2 emission savings of up to 125,715 tonnes, during 25 years of operation.

On December 21, 2018, the Municipality of Chania signed a contract with MES ENERGY S.A. for the provision of services on issues concerning the electrical interconnection and net metering of municipal buildings with HEDNO. The Municipality of Chania possesses a number of energy-consuming facilities in which significant amounts of electricity are spent yearly, while releasing a large volume of carbon dioxide at the same time. The Municipality, however, presents various possibilities for energy saving and RES usage, especially in Crete, where the available RES potential is abundant. These possibilities, in combination with the opportunities for the improvement of facilities through the available funding programs, constitute one of the current development priorities of the Municipality. In order to meet the priorities and needs that arise timely and successfully, the assistance of specialized consultants, with experience in energy saving, in clean technology applications, in the institutional framework of energy saving and RES and in the reduction of the carbon footprint of building facilities, was asked. In this context, using municipal funding, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the role of a Technical Advisor on energy issues, through the support of the Municipality in the preparation of funding proposals with the aim of energy upgrade of municipal facilities and of electricity production in the municipal infrastructure, using PV systems with the application of net metering. In more detail, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the recording of cases and the collection of consumption data, the recording of possibilities for the installation of PV systems using net metering or virtual net metering, the preparation of a Master Plan based on the above data, and, lastly, the assessment of carbon dioxide emissions for the proposed interventions, as well as the preparation of applications for HEDNO. It is also worth mentioning that this activity presents multiple benefits for the Municipality of Chania concerning, in addition to the complete detailed description of interventions needed to achieve lower carbon emissions, the reduction of operating costs and the environmental footprint of municipal facilities. Through this cooperation, MES ENERGY S.A. contributed to the improvement of energy efficiency and RES usage in the building infrastructure of the Municipality and to the shared goal for a turn towards green energy and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

On August 9, 2018 the Municipality of Platanias,Crete, signed a contract with MES ENERGY S.A., concerning the Provision of Consulting Services for the investigation of energy saving proposals and for the reduction of the carbon footprint in the facilities of the Municipality. The Municipality has the potential for energy saving solutions and RES usage. This potential, combined with the opportunities to improve its installations using the available funding programs, constitute one of the development priorities of the Municipality. In order to meet its development priorities and needs properly and in time, the assistance of specialized consultants with experience in the field of energy saving, in applied clean technologies, in the institutional framework of energy saving and RES and in the reduction of the carbon footprint in building facilities was asked. In this context, with the financial resources of the Municipality, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the support in the preparation of a financing proposal for the Operational Program “Crete” 2014-2020. In more detail, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the provision of consulting services, whose purpose was the design of specific proposals to save energy and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings of the Municipality, with the ultimate goal of receiving funding for the above actions from the Operational Program “Crete”. The aforementioned consulting services aimed at the participation in programs in order to ensure the money required to execute energy saving projects in the Buildings of the Municipality of Platanias. Therefore, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the recording of the buildings and the collection of their consumption data, the recording of the possibilities of energy upgrading, energy saving and exploitation of Renewable Energy Sources, the elaboration of a detailed Master Plan, in which the given situation was assessed, the assessment of the carbon dioxide savings from the interventions and, finally, the preparation of licensing dossiers. It is worth mentioning that the above activity presents multiple benefits for the Municipality of Platanias, that concern, in addition to the complete and detailed energy recording of the building facilities, so that the Municipality is ready to submit financing proposals, saving resources for the operation of its facilities as well as the reduction of its carbon footprint. Through the above cooperation, MES ENERGY S.A. contributes to the improvement of the energy profile of the Municipality, as well as to the drastic reduction of the carbon emissions.

The Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP S.A.) launched a call for a Tender, in 2016, concerning the supply, installation and commissioning of energy saving LED luminaires for the lighting of Mornos Dam. MES ENERGY S.A. was selected for this project, as it presented the most cost efficient offer. The Contract between the company and EYDAP S.A. was signed on March 28, 2017. Based on the Contract, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the replacement of the previous 65 luminaires on the road of the crown of Mornos dam with new LED technology luminaires, thus ensuring the safety of the dam and its workers. LED lighting presents many advantages, such as minimal maintenance, good performance- consumption ratio, immediate ignition, zero illuminance degradation during their lifetime, ability to operate at extreme temperatures, with an operating range from -25 to +50 degrees celsius, as well as an increased lifetime of over 50.000 hours, which translates to 12 hours of daily operation for 11,4 years for each luminaire. However, the most important advantage of LED lighting concerns their energy saving ability, which can reach up to 70% compared to the conventional lighting of lower performance. Therefore, due to all the benefits mentioned above, LED luminaires are considered the optimal solution for street lighting, as well as a variety of applications , as they combine good quality of lighting with low energy consumption.
