Provision of Services for the Investigation and Categorization of Buildings in the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete

The Municipality of Heraklion launched a call for a Tender, in 2017, for the provision of Services for the Investigation of municipal buildings and their categorization in representative Typologies, in the framework of the project “Integrated Management Support for Energy efficiency in Mediterranean PUblic buiLdings-IMPULSE (1MED15_2.1_M2_178)”, which is part of the transnational European Cooperation Programme for the Mediterranean area, “INTERREG MED” 2014-2020. The program was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), by national resources (Public Investment Program) and by the Municipal budget. MES ENERGY S.A. was selected for the above purpose, having presented the most economical offer, based on an optimal value for money, and signed the relevant contract with the Municipality of Heraklion on August 30, 2017. Therefore, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the definition of an initial, representative sample of municipal buildings in the Municipality of Heraklion, that combine potential for energy saving solutions, high preference or priority and high usage. Subsequently, the company undertook the definition of criteria and the categorization process of municipal buildings in Typologies, as well as the technical description of each Typology of buildings. In addition, during the implementation of the aforementioned project, the Municipality of Heraklion cooperated with the Coordinating Partner of IMPULSE, the Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES), with the aim of techno-economic analysis and evaluation of optimal and feasible energy efficiency measures concerning the upgrade of municipal buildings. In this context, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the support of Municipal Services, delivering a technical report for the evaluation of the energy upgrade measures of the buildings. It is worth noting that the above cooperation was realised for the collection and categorization of data meant to be used by the Municipality in the integrated design of energy efficiency interventions in public buildings, in a reliable and affordable way, in order to upgrade the buildings and, consequently, in order to reduce their environmental footprint.
