MES ENERGY S.A. undertook, on behalf of the Municipality of Heraklion, the supply and installation of eight PV Systems with a total capacity of 151.19 kWp. These systems will operate using the Net-Metering mechanism. Additionally, the company will replace the existing conventional lamps in eight municipal buildings with new energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures. The contract, worth 312,006 euros, was signed on Monday, June 19, 2023, and is expected to be completed within eighteen months.
Net-Metering enables Local Government Organizations to offset a significant portion of their electricity consumption by harnessing solar energy from the PV panels to meet their energy demands. At the same time, LED lamps achieve significant energy savings compared to traditional ones as they have up to ten times longer lifespan, are more durable, do not emit heat, do not contain harmful gases like mercury, consume less electricity, and have minimal maintenance requirements.
Due to its high energy consumption, the Municipality of Heraklion is compelled to prioritize energy-saving measures through the adoption of Renewable Energy Sources. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the Municipality’s energy profile and drastically reduce CO2 emissions.
