In July 2019, a call for a Tender was launched for the signing of a contract concerning the supply of one electric minibus, three electric two-wheeled vehicles and one charging station in the Municipality of Chania. MES ENERGY S.A. was selected for this purpose, as it presented the most cost effective offer, and signed the above contract with the Municipality of Chania on March 13, 2020. The contract is part of the realization of the project: “Common Actions to Develop Green – Environmentally Friendly Tours in Tourist Areas”, also known by the acronym “ECORouTs”, which is part of the “INTERREG VA Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020” Cooperation Programme. The mentioned project is funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund), by Greece (Public Investment Program) and by the Municipality of Chania. In more detail, the contract includes the supply of four electric vehicles, one minibus, allowing access to people with limited mobility, and three two-wheeled vehicles, with batteries (Battery Electric Vehicles – BEV) that offer autonomy for 100km/charge, whose movement is supplied exclusively from electricity stored in Lithium technology deep charge / discharge batteries with energy management system (EMS). The Contract also includes the supply and installation of a charging station compatible with the supplied vehicles at a selected and appropriate location of the municipal facilities. Additionally, due to the electric vehicles’ different driving features and maintenance needs compared to the conventional vehicles, the company undertook the training of the staff of the Municipality of Chania, which took place at the premises of the Municipality. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the above activity, in addition to serving the needs of the Municipality in vehicles, aims to encourage citizens to use low or zero emissions vehicles, thus contributing to the reduction of the environmental footprint caused by public transport.
