Supporting the Transition of the Municipality of Neon Heraklion towards a Low Carbon Economy through Citizen Participatory Processes

PROJECT SUMMARY

MES Energy S.A. undertook the project “Supporting the Transition of the Municipality of Neon Heraklion towards a Low Carbon Economy through Citizen Participatory Processes” in the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete, which includes the energy assessment and monitoring of residential buildings, as well as informing citizens about realistic actions and interventions to improve energy efficiency.

More specifically, it includes the support of the Municipality of Neon Heraklion in the implementation of the following actions: Processing of available data, initial selection and prioritisation of residential buildings, energy assessment of the selected buildings (energy data sheet of the residential buildings, analysis of measurements of representative residential buildings, measurement databases of representative residential buildings), analysis of energy assessment data and formulation of energy upgrade proposals (personalised proposals to improve the energy efficiency of residential buildings, implementation of energy behaviour improvement programmes and energy impact measurements in representative residential buildings), information and encouragement of homeowners (information and encouragement leaflets for homeowners), action plan for the energy efficiency of the residential buildings.

Through this innovative initiative of the Municipality of Neon Heraklion, the participatory transition to a low-carbon economy is enhanced, the familiarisation of citizens with energy efficiency and economy practices and awareness of greenhouse gas mitigation issues in the domestic sector. In addition, the acceleration of energy upgrades of residential buildings is achieved, while the payback potential and the significant economic benefit of implementing energy interventions in residential buildings is fully understood.

MES Energy S.A. continues to actively support any innovative project that will actively contribute to the protection of the environment.
