Program: “INNOVATION CLUSTERS / IC – 2nd Call: Enterprises” of the Operational Programme “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPAnEK) 2014-2020”

PROJECT SUMMARY

Project: Business Plans for the Development of RES-EE Innovation for Application in Nearly Zero Energy Consumption Infrastructures

Work Module: Power Management

Partners: MES Energy S.A., HERON SA

This work module aims at the techno-economic study of a hydrogen system for backup power production. The proposed system is based on hydrogen fuel cells for the production of electricity, while emphasis is placed on the implementation of the proposed system in the building sector. The work module also includes the pilot implementation and operation of the proposed hydrogen system. Ultimately, the necessary actions for the market penetration of the proposed technology are identified.

In respect of its role, MES Energy S.A. as head of the work module “Energy Management” completed the following actions:

  • Techno-Economic analysis of the replacement of a conventional backup power generation system (Diesel Generator) with a hydrogen backup system in various categories of buildings (shopping center, office, school) in Greece
  • Design and implementation of a pilot hydrogen backup system consisting of: fuel cell, battery pack, hydrogen cylinders, system controller, load simulator (DC load)
  • Conducting measurements in the pilot layout and extraction of energy efficiency indicators (power produced, efficiency, etc.)
  • Elaboration of a cooperation plan and roadmap for the market penetration of the proposed technology

Part of the results of the MES actions have been published in the paper:
