The Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP S.A.) launched a call for a Tender, in 2016, concerning the supply, installation and commissioning of energy saving LED luminaires for the lighting of Mornos Dam. MES ENERGY S.A. was selected for this project, as it presented the most cost efficient offer. The Contract between the company and EYDAP S.A. was signed on March 28, 2017. Based on the Contract, MES ENERGY S.A. undertook the replacement of the previous 65 luminaires on the road of the crown of Mornos dam with new LED technology luminaires, thus ensuring the safety of the dam and its workers. LED lighting presents many advantages, such as minimal maintenance, good performance- consumption ratio, immediate ignition, zero illuminance degradation during their lifetime, ability to operate at extreme temperatures, with an operating range from -25 to +50 degrees celsius, as well as an increased lifetime of over 50.000 hours, which translates to 12 hours of daily operation for 11,4 years for each luminaire. However, the most important advantage of LED lighting concerns their energy saving ability, which can reach up to 70% compared to the conventional lighting of lower performance. Therefore, due to all the benefits mentioned above, LED luminaires are considered the optimal solution for street lighting, as well as a variety of applications , as they combine good quality of lighting with low energy consumption.
